Product Description The HMX-U10 is the ideal solution for anyone looking for ultimate portability and ease of use in an HD camcorder. The HMX-U10 offers full-HD video recording with 1920x1080 resolution. The HMX-U10's 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor also gives you the ability to capture impressive 10-megapixel digital still images, all which can be reviewed on the camcorder's clear, 2-inch LCD screen. At 56mm x 103mm x 15.5mm, and weighing just 95g including the battery, the HMX-U10 is ultra-compact with an ergonomic design that breaks free of the traditional look and feel of pocket-sized camcorders. Its sleek frame is accentuated by a wave-design that angles the body of the camcorder at seven degrees, allowing users to grip the camcorder more comfortably, reducing any related stress on the wrist or arm.
The new HMX-U10 also boasts boast several unique features which differentiate it from the competition and makes video recording even more enjoyable for consumers. Such features include Samsung's built-in intelli-studio software, animated thumbnails, and a versatile charging system.
No longer do you need to worry about being near a home computer in order to edit or share video. The HMX-U10 features Samsung's play-edit-sharing program called intelli studio. The camcorders' built-in intelli-studio program allows consumers to turn any computer into a mobile studio, giving them the ability to edit and play their video without having to install supporting software. Sharing is also simplified using intelli-studio as the program takes the hassle out of uploading content to popular video sharing Web sites. For example, a one-touch "upload" button, available directly on the HMX-U10, provides a direct connection to YouTube, further reducing the number of steps needed to upload footage. In addition, the camcorders also allow basic on-camera editing, including the ability to split video files.

Excellent motion pics July 20, 2010 Roy Wiegmann (Dallas, TX) Except for disadvantage of zero capacity for still pics, I find this an extremely chic camcorder to flaunt! Excellent motion pic clarity, slick to fit into pockets jus like my phone. Most importantly, it is not at all complicated to use. Good battery, light and pretty.
SAMSUNG HMX 10 CAMCORDER July 4, 2010 Terry LeeTusing (MORGANTOWN, WV, US) I HAVE PURCHASED TWO OF THESE FROM AMAZON.ONE FOR MYSELF AND ONE FOR A GIFT.THESE CAMERAS DO A WONDERFUL JOB AND I AM VERY WELL PLEASED.THE PRICE WAS A GRREAT DEAL.HAVE BEEN DOING MANY VIDEOS AND THEY LOOK REALLY NICE.THANK YOU FOR A GREAT DEAL AND PRODUCT.
Great for outdoors May 19, 2010 tz (Somewhere near Michigan) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is going to be used as an alternative to one of the sport cameras for a motorcycle trip.
IT WILL CHARGE OVER USB BUT WILL NOT LET YOU TAKE PICTURES/VIDEOS EVEN IF ATTACHED TO A POWER ONLY ADAPTER since it thinks it is attached to a computer and goes into that mode!
It won't recognize the SD card when plugged into a Mac, but the SD card works fine with any cheap adapter.
(NEW!) IT ONLY DOES TIME LAPSE IN 720p/60fps, not 1080p - but in the superfine setting. No other options.
Bizarre power supply connector, so you aren't going to find a car charger easily. This also needs to have the compartment open and is up the side so won't be convenient for the time-lapse
20Mbit/s rate (1080p superfine 30fps) compressed and the color channel is the standard lower rez so don't expect it to be identical to a 2Mp jpeg for each frame, but it is still very good - better than full pixel lower rez. Note this will also result in BIG files so will take a long time to upload to YouTube (I'm not sure if the one I tried got through - it is "processing" as I write this).
Rare but occasional "write error" only when starting to record - restarting always works 100%.
Whatever software is included is Windows Only but I could do basic editing in the Quicktime viewer app on my Mac using the SD card since the format is standard.
Pros:
Full 1920x1080 HD so there's lots of detail in each frame, and you get all 30 frames each second and can step through them.
Works quite a while on a charge.
Works with common SDHC cards (20Mbit/sec video - Class 6 should work, but I have a class 10).
10Mp picture capability.
MP4 format readable by common programs.
Easy to setup and use
Time Lapse
This model/color/whatever is really inexpensive so it is a really good value.
Compact, lightweight.
Cons:
It is really for daytime outdoors or brightly lit areas only.
The 10Mp was blurry but adequate.
Simple and easy also means not very flexible. HD and medium def, but no low-rez but very long times. Limited time lapse settings.
The two items I mentioned at the top - USB won't power/charge and let you use camera and charge connector is strange.
Component output only.
Power/SD card is one flap, Video/USB together in another.
Flat touch buttons need getting used to.
For my use in videologging my trip, it is almost perfect (only flaw is powering it from my motorcycle which I will do but it will be annoying).
But it has very specific limitations. If they aren't a problem the camera will be great. If they are it might be almost useless.
Junk May 15, 2010 Michael D. Collier (Atlanta, GA USA) Complete waste of money. Build quality is good, but the device completely fails at even the most basic functions. I'm astonished that such a poorly performing product is even on today's market. This performance may have been a novelty 10 years ago, but I wouldn't use it today if somebody gave me one. Avoid, avoid, avoid. Junk!
Software glitch on second use May 15, 2010 T. Beck (Minnesota) Received product and used it to record 5 minutes of a friend's band. I would give it a 4 (from 1-10) when it comes to low light image, and give it a 2 for sound. The music distorted very badly. Some distortion is normal for this type of device but the sound was terrible.
On the second day I had it we planned to mount it on a mic boom and record a whole gig. I hit the power button, the green light came on, but then nothing happened. No display on the screen. Could not power it down. Could not force a reboot. It became worthless. Thankfully Amazon has an easy return policy.
